Randy
Swaim, Ph. D.,
is a
research scientist and the Associate Scientific Director of the
Tri-Ethnic Center for Prevention Research in the Department of
Psychology at Colorado State University. He is trained as a
counseling psychologist and has conducted research studies of
adolescent substance use, anger, and violence for the past 14 years.
He is currently the principal investigator of two grants, one funded
by the National Institute on Drug Abuse examining the use of media to
prevent violence among youth, and the other funded by the Colorado
Tobacco Research Program, examining the effects of social influences
on tobacco use among youth. |

Kathleen
Kelly, Ph.D.,
is an Associate
Professor of Marketing at Colorado
State University. An expert in promotional strategy, she has
conducted research
on the effectiveness of social marketing and media campaigns
in prosocial contexts, including the prevention of substance
abuse, HIV/AIDS, teen pregnancy, and
domestic violence. Dr. Kelly’s research has incorporated
interpersonal and
community-wide interventions to reinforce campaign
objectives. Currently, she
serves as principal investigator on a grant funded by the
National Institute on
Drug Abuse to study the effects of localized media campaigns
on tobacco use
among rural Mexican-American and White-American youth.
Because of the interdisciplinary nature of her work, she has
been published in journals in the fields of marketing,
advertising, communication, psychology, public policy, and
substance-abuse prevention. |

Liza Hunn, M.S., is a Research Associate with the
Department of Marketing at Colorado State University. Her
specialty areas are international marketing, social
marketing, and
prevention research. She has served as project coordinator and
institute director for research projects aimed at reducing substance
use and violence
in youth. She is committed to empowering
adolescents to make a difference in their communities through media
literacy, media advocacy, peer mentoring, and role
modeling.
