Institute Goals
  • To localize the media campaign for each community
  • To train participants how to work with the media and implement the campaign in their community
  • To provide team building exercises and organizational skills that will assist each team to be successful
  • To teach participants violence prevention skills
  • To teach the skills necessary to be effective role models to younger youth
Institute Participants were selected based on the following qualities
  • Are enthusiastic about participating
  • Will serve as strong role models for younger youth
  • Want to make a difference in their schools and communities
  • Are committed to reducing violence among youth
  • Have leadership ability
  • Have an interest in advertising and, more broadly, communications
  • Are physically and emotionally healthy
  • Have the potential to develop or already have good communication skills with both adults and teens
  • Work easily and cooperatively with others
  • Are committed to work on the project during the Institute and the school year following Institute completion
